Frosty mornings, warmer days

Grenville was looking for a snake very close to this guy but didn't see him or smell him as bathed in the sun on a very cool day.
The Trillium are fading fast with frosty mornings we have been having the last few days.

In the State Park

Some uses for the Jack-in-the-Pulpit you may not have heard of.

This is a Jack-in-the-Pulpit
This Cabbage White is responsible for the ragged look of the middle flower in pic below
A trio of White Trillium probably some of the last of the season.

A school snow day

This was yesterday - rain all day
Today we had snow - all day
I think this was the same Jack-in-the-Pulpit from above.
This is no way to treat an apple blossom.

Milksnake

The Milksnake was getting a little upset and rising up to fight back.

... Ahead of time

The Jack-in-the-Pulpit was a big surprise.  They are usually out just as the Trillium are ending but the White Trillium are just starting.  Everything is about 4 weeks ahead of time.
Even the Mertensia are way early in Mertensia Park

Three flavors of Trilliums and other flowers

The Trout Lily's are finally up and about

This Bloodroot was smart enough to not come out until now many others bloomed and were frozen the next day

 The Purple Trillium

 The Green Trillium
And finally the Large White Trillium

Trillium

The Trillium are still coming way early but the cold, freezing weather is play havoc with them.
This is the first white trillium I have seen which is odd because they usually are the most prevalent with only a few Purple ones.  I think this is a  Trillium grandiflorum, but it does not look so grand.  I think the flowers will be small because of the freezing nights
