More Trillium Grandiflorum

I'll try to make this the last Trillium picture till next year. People are starting to think I love Trillium when the fact is they are just the first out to take pictures of. Other things are coming out and the Trillium are starting to pass.

It stopped raining ... now it is snowing

A light wet snow this morning which extended our snow season 2 months from the shortest on record to normal. So I went out and took these Trillium pix. Nodding Trillium Large White

Yet another day of rain

It is raining again just like yesterday. This hasn't bother the Marsh Marigold. There are several large patches around the area. It sure does brighten up the swamps.
Apple blossoms in the rain
It could be a really good strawberry season coming up.

Two Beauties

The Cedar Waxwing is one of my favorite birds. I love the color combination of the brownish breast, bright yellow tag on the tail and then the rich black accents.
The Fringed Polygala is just a neat flower to try to photograph because it is quite small (about 1" wing tip to wing tip) and very close to the ground.

More Spring

The Maple seeds are dropping as the buds of all trees burst on to the scene.
No a great image, but any picture I can get of a Wood Duck is great. They are very reclusive and generally fly well before I ever see them.
These Goslings we with mom and dad.

Forget-Me-Not

Hanging around the woods.

The blooms bloom

This Garter snake was warming himself for the day when we pulled into the parking lot.
The Cherries are in bloom and the apple blossoms are just about open despite the freezing mornings. This is causing ulcers for the local apple and cherry farmers.

New Wild Flowers

The Trout Lily finally thawed out and opened up.
This looks like a Purple Trillium that lost it's color in the petals. Maybe different variety not sure.
The Bloodroot finally opened up as we were leaving. We had a frost last night and it was still cold when we started out so the Bloodroot was all curled up tight.

Turkey

This lone Turkey was wandering about in a field when I took this shot.

It's Raining

Went to the Victor Lehigh Crossing Park this morning. It is raining again today which is why the path to the Beaver Bridge is slightly wet (just behind the Marigolds). But the Marsh Marigolds are out covering the ground in large patches.

A Winter Break

Yesterday shorts and light shirts - today a couple snow flakes and light rain. Most of the wild flowers have closed up and are looking for the train south. These Dutchman's Britches can't fold up.
The White and Purple Trillium are early bloomers and therefore hardy guys.

Trillium

This Purple Trillium is very local. They are just barely out.
This White Trillium is at least a week behind. I guess the micro-climate has a lot of influence with this years crops.

Wild Flowers in the Park

I took this Purple Trillium while sliding down the hillside backwards - it rained last night and boy, do the leaves get slippery

I'll have to look back to last years pix to find out what these are

They taste like chicken

I don't really know because I have never eaten Wood Duck or Northern Water Snake. This is the way I usually see Woodies flying like hell to get away. The Northern is usually just a flash, but I think I cought him in the open so he tried to be a stick in the path because he didn't have a hole near by.

Green Frog

Green Frog Rana clamitans He was about to be trampled by Grenville so he jumped between my feet for safety.

Spring is going like 60 (mph I think )

I was amazed to see this Trillium up this high. I looked here less than a week ago and nothing.
Spring goes racing along at break neck speed (it's going like 60 ) and bringing out everything including the Daffodils.

Boids

The Blue Heron sits on the tree top looking for a shore dinner. The spring peepers are going wild, so he should have plenty to eat.
This King Fisher dove into the water but I couldn't see if he came up with anything.
Just hangin' out. (a Downey Woodpecker).

A hot day in April

It's 80*F and not even noon. The spring flowers are starting to burst forth.
The cute Turkey Vulture was sitting on the telephone pole just waiting for Grenville to kill something. Unfortunately Grenville isn't very good at catching stuff. So the vulture flew off to other areas.

Northern Water Snake

But first a Red-bellied Woodpecker beats the woods.

This guy is just out of winter storage and warming up slowly. He is gray rather than almost black because he will shed his skin soon.
