Birds and stuff

This juvenile Wood Duck was just sitting around waiting for us.
The pair of Green Heron were only 2 of the 6 I saw today. That is very unusual I typically only see 1 at a time.
The little bunny sat until he saw Grenville, then disappeared as fast his legs would take him.
It seems like this guy should just slide down the reed.

Down by the beaver pond ...

I heard something splash to the left, but saw Grenville to the right. "What the heck was that" I says to myself. I think it was a very big Snapping Turtle. Grenville saw it too and was in hot pursuit. I calmly took pictures and franticly screamed for Grenville to stop. This guy could have taken his foot off or even dragged him under and drown him. All ended well but I have got to slap some common sense into that boy.

Heron vs Jay

I don't know the backstory, but this Green Heron and the Blue Jay were at odds. The Jay never directly attach the heron but he was very threatening as you can see the heron try to ward him off.
The Green Heron when the Jay was on a tree farther away.
The butterfly was jamming his probosis into the thistle flower so hard he pulled them off the flower head.

Photo session of Rochesters buildings etc.

The Fireman on the fire house in Rochester. We took a photo tour of Rochester.
High Falls in the middle of Rochester, NY. How cool is this! a 90 foot water fall in the middle of your city.

The Platte St bridge, now known as the Pont De Renne . The tall building at the end is the Rochester Button Co. once the largest button company in the world.

On the trail ...

The fly in the flower
A Spicebush Swallowtail has a bit of breakfast.
Grenville scatters a covey of Canada Geese helter skelter. This was strange because these geese have been going beyond the farthest point down the trail you can see in the picture as we are getting out of the car. Today they just waited for us.

Old friends

Grenville found this 4" Snapping Turtle hiding in the grass on the trail. The piece of wood in his mouth is from the stick I used to move the turtle to get a better picture. I think Grenville rattled his cage a little causing him to be irritable.
A herd of Turkeys
Butterfly and Thistle
Vicroy
This Deer will never make it to Christmas. She just stood watching us as we drove by with Grenville barking and and going crazy in the back of the Jeep.

Fungi

After weeks of hot, humid days the mushys have started to show up in the woods.

I don't know what any of these are so no name dropping. This guy is about 8-9" in diam.

A peek over the edge ....

Just a little peek over the edge to see what is for dinner. They will never see me behind this leaf.

Insects

A Viceroy was flying about and landed for a photo op. Haven't seen many other butterflies ???
The Dragonflies are slowing down and actually landing.
This will probably be the last of the Butterfly Weed pictures until next year.

Hot and muggy again

The Butterfly feeds on the milkweed.
A wild sunflower blooms.
The Mandrake or Mayapples are dying off, but you can see the "apple". This be off the beaten path for the deer because it hasn't been eaten.

Out and about ...

Off to the races! Grenville saw this Fox and started the chase. A few minutes later I started whistling for him when he returned to the trail but totally ignored me. It turned out to be another dog, white with a black eye and ear, As Grenville came out of the brush next to me. I don't know where he came from or went, but it was strange since he was very like Grenville.
Eyed brown out just enjoying a warm pleasant day
After last nights rain the creek runs wild again.

Unbearable HOT this week

The Chief Troll under the bridge waiting for people, children, rabbits, foxes whatever to cross his bridge and pay the toll. This shows the only relief for the past several days. We have been making very short walks with few picture ops.Sun light shines through even in the forest.

The webs we weave. Ok They weave.

4th of July ... more or less

A wild sunflower before someone cuts them like they did last year.
This is as close to fireworks as I get both in time and space.
Just add to the myth that there are more twins being born by the local deers.

Waxwing, Deerlings, Fox

Took a walk on the south side of Hi Tor today. This is a trail I have not been on in over 5 years. The walk up to Camp #1 was dull, but a pleasant day for a walk.
On the way back this fox was sitting in the road waiting for us. When we got to where he had been sitting Grenville took notice and went wild. I told him he could not chase the fox and he didn't. By this time I think he was just too tired.
When we got near the car we found these 2 bambis in the road. I finally shooed them away fearing Grenville would find them to be play things. Never did see mama. She was probably standing behind me ready to bash my head in if need be.
