New GPS unit

I have mentioned going Geocaching several times.  This is my new GPS unit.  The white box contains the GPS and a radio transmitter.   The laptop has a radio receiver which loads the data on to Delorme Topo 7.0.  The GPS is separated from the laptop using theXBee radios to communicate. I will be trying this out soon.

Red Fox

Out standing in his field ... looking for mice etc.  Haven't seen one in several months so this was great to see.

Skunk cabbage

Last week it was spring like ... this week was like January.  The temp has not topped freezing and the nights were in the teens.
The Skunk cabbage has flowered (see above) and is now leafing out.

Ice

I don't know if this is ice fishing or just freezing-to-death-fishing. We had several days which melted all the ice, but the last couple have been so cold some ice has returned.
More ice on the creek.

Down to the So end of the lake

This is as close as I could get to the Woodducks.  Grenville was in chase mode looking for geese
This is not the way we like to think of spring
I like this shot. I have this bridge in fall.  Way cool.

Geocaching on a sunny Sunday

Flint Creek Cascade as we were out Geocaching today.

Spring is really arriving today with these shoots coming up in the woods
We stopped by City Pier in Canadiagua for some shots of the ducks.  This guy was happy to puff up and strut for the camera.
 Deena gets the shot
Skiing on the water.

Mergansers on the Beaver pond

This pair of Hooded Mergansers were swimming on the local beaver pond this morning along with some geese and ducks.  Until Grenville saw the geese and went down to the waters edge to chase the geese and chased away the ducks.  The geese were still there as we left.

Some birds

A Cardinal was hiding in the branches but was making lots of noise in the hope of love.
Speaking of love ... this female Mallard was alone to day with no sign of the male that I have seen her with.  Are the feathers all over her head any sign of him? maybe a domestic problem.

Happy St Pat's

Who knew Shamrocks had flowers.  This is a picture Amanda sent me of her flowers.

My friend Amy pours a "small" Guinness.

Cold Start ... Sunny Day ...

Started at the cascades on Flint Creek which were flowing full, but not over the banks

A little further down the creek the raccoon had been there earlier.

We continued on to Seneca lake and found a few Coots, Canada Geese bobbing on the rough water

The Common Merganser went flying through but didn't see him stop.  Just a low level dash.

Deep in the Victor swampy woods

The Skunk Cabbage Flower again blooming in the snow being optimistic about spring

The sidewalk through the swampy areas is very welcome at this time.
These guys are headed due south at this point which makes me worry about an early spring.

Clark's Gully

The pathway up to Clark's Gully cascade was full of water so we just pictured the pathway.

Later we will try to get some pictures of the waterfall.

Spring flowers

The Skunk Cabbage is about the only wild flower in bloom so expect to see more pictures as not much else to take pictures of.

Ducks on the water

Buffleheads were a small part of the flotilla

This is a merge of 4 images at the end of Canandiagia Lake so it is small, but hopefully you can make out all the birds.  I haven't seen this many down there ever.

Canada Goose

The pond has open water around it, but the main pond is still a block of ice.

Yesterday's snow on Stid Hill

We got a few inches yesterday making this year the 4th snowiest in recent history.

It was cool and sunny, but lots of snow on still on the ground.

Spring is coming ...

The Skunk Cabbage flowers are starting to bloom ... can spring be far away.  They are coming up through the ice and snow.
A Downy Woodpecker is finding slim pickens on this branch

Fort Hill in the spring ... probably not yet

The sun is shining, the grass is showing now all we need is spring
The deer are out trying to glean dropped corn from the field
I haven't seen this Blue Heron before, but I think he is waiting for the ice leave the pond.
